By showcasing one’s truest self, I have come to understand that despite our differences, we are equal because we are all human. The issues of racism, gender roles and the rise of ‘queer’ and ‘non-binary’ themes have become more apparent in the bigger discussion of representation in our lives. Despite the prevailing message of acceptance and inclusion that is seen in this world, we still live in a world that suffers from judgement, stereotypes and discrimination as we get tied down to the labels that we as humans are pigeonholed into. In an attempt to break down the endless cycle of ‘inflicting’ and ‘suffering’ of judgement, I chose to return my focus to our most natural forms, free of nuances and connotations of who we might be, but instead a direct representation of who we are — our human skin, as a reminder that everyone is born as equals.
