Beyond Surface: Reimagining Human Body
2023 • Tate Modern, London, UK

Ohata dives into their innovative practice, drawing inspiration from SFX techniques to challenge societal norms via wearable art and sculptural installations. Utilising silicone to mimic human skin, they explore the boundaries of self, using their past experiences to create tactile, interactive pieces that encapsulate their identity. Influenced by Posthuman philosophy and the works of Maria Bartuszová and Patricia Piccinini, Ohata explores themes of care, self-acceptance, and the possibility for body modification, ultimately provoking a reevaluation of the traditional "human" form.
